American Mah Jongg for Beginners

March 28 @ 6:00 pm 8:00 pm

Would you like to learn how to play American Mah Jongg?

The Lyme Public Library is starting up classes to teach people how to play. The next class will be held on March 28th from 6-8:00pm with experienced players and teachers on hand to “play along” with the students. After these “beginner/teaching classes” we will be starting up a “Mah Jongg Club” (meetings TBA).

The library can provide 2 American Mah Jongg sets to club members (to be used onsite) and copies of the 2023 scorecards. If you have your own set of American Mah Jongg tiles and 2023 cards please bring them along so you can play with your own tiles and cards as we have limited supplies of shared materials. We highly recommend that you attend one of the February AND March events in order to get a better understanding of how the game is played before coming to one or the Mah Jongg Club meetings if you are new to the game.

American Mah Jongg is played with four players using Mah Jongg tiles. The goal of the game is to be the first, by picking and discarding, to match one’s tiles to a specific hand from the annually distributed scorecard published by the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) and American Mah-Jongg Association (AMJA)

To register and reserve your “place at the teaching tables” please email programreg@lymepl.org
