Updated information as of January 28, 2010

Downloadable audio books are available to Lyme residents with a valid libary card through Recorded Books/NetLibrary and through the Connecticut State Library via iCONN.  Information on how to use both services appears below.

Downloadable audio books through iCONN:

The service includes over 1300 digital audio book titles from Ingram Digital Group, and is targeted to schools and public libraries, but is available to all. Anyone with Internet access is welcome to point to and search the service at http://connstatelib.myilibraryaudio.com/ but to place holds or check out titles requires a valid Connecticut public library card number.

Titles can be downloaded to PC or Macs using the free plugin from Ingram Digital Group called the Ingram Media Manager. From your computer, you can then transfer titles to iPods and certain MP3 players for limited times. More details about how the service works are available from the Help link at the web site above.

Recorded Books/NetLibrary

You must create an account from one of the library's desktop patron access computers.  Once you have created your account at the library, you can then access it from home or from any computer with Internet access.  If you cannot travel to the library, the staff can create an account for you over the phone as time permits.    If you try to create an account outside of the library, it will not work.

To create an account from the Lyme Library or to log in with your existing account click here.

As of April 1, 2009, the new NetLibrary Media Player is available for download.  The media player allows you to download books directly to your MP3 player or iPod.  After  you log in, click on the rectangular banner that says "New NetLibrary Media Player"  "Easier, faster downloads." and you will be given instructions on how to download the media player.   You should make sure your computer is up to date with all Windows Updates before downloading the media player.   It should take no more than 5 minutes to download the media player.  However, if your computer is not updated with all the latest Windows updates, they will be downloaded with the media player and it could take up to 30 minutes.   Please note: only PC computers or Macs that are dual core and can run Windows software are compatible at this time.

You may use Windows Media player to download titles if you prefer. However, you will have to download to your computer and then transfer to your portable device. You should be sure that you have the most recent version of Media Player on your computer.  Click here to download Windows Media Player if you do not have it on your computer.

iPod compatible titles are now available.  Titles labeled Mp3 are compatible with iPods.  Those labeled WMA are Windows compatible only.   Click for a list of supported portable devices that are compatible with our file formats.

Downloaded titles will be accessible on your computer for three weeks.   You may renew the license once for another three weeks.  After that,  you will need to download the title again if you wish to listen to it.  Titles are always available.  There is no waiting or reserve list.
