Saturday, May 17, 9AM to~12PM- Connecticut River Cruise and Brunch   
Aboard the Riverquest, we will explore the area north of the East Haddam Bridge, search for the site of the homestead of Venture Smith, and venture onto the Salmon River. Brunch and beverages provided. Reservations and prepayment are required: members of the Lyme Public Hall, $35; nonmembers, $40.  The boat will leave from the Hamburg Cove Yacht Club, 13 Cove Road, Lyme at 9AM. Proceeds support the Lyme Public Hall's historical programs. To reserve a space on this trip, call Marilyn Wilkins at 434-1211.

Working the Land: The Story of Connecticut's Agriculture
Film screening with a personal appearance by award winning filmmaker Ken Simon.
The Lyme Public Hall and the Lyme Land Conservation Trust are co-sponsoring this screening of  the film, narrated by actor Sam Waterston, which chronicles Connecticut's farm legacy from it's earliest history to present-day agriculture. After the film, a panel of people involved in local agriculture will be available to answer questions. Free.

Annual Meeting & Potluck Dinner
Special Program to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Local History Archives.
Community Potluck Dinner begins at 6:00 PM followed by the meeting and the program.
Bring a main course, salad or desert to share for the potluck dinner. Beverages, plates and utensils will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.

An Overview of Lyme's cemeteries-A Talk and Walk with Parker Lord
Selectman and Lyme history enthusiast Parker Lord, will give a talk with slides on the cemeteries of Lyme with an emphasis on restoration and preservation. After the talk, join Parker for a guided walk at the North Lyme Cemetery behind the Lyme Congregational Church.

Anne Farrow-Complicity- How the North Profited, Promoted, and Prolonged Slavery
Anne Farrow, author and journalist will present highlights of the book she co-authored. She was editor and writer for the Hartford current for twenty years and is currently managing editor of a project to build a website for ECHO-Encyclopedia of Connecticut History Online. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Charles Farrow-Milling Around Some More - Lower Connecticut Valley Water Mills
Ever wonder how water mills worked? Charles Farrow, East Haddam Historical Society President, will present a talk with slides of historic photos and what remains today mills powered by water in Hemlock Valley brook and Whalebone Cove.

The Lyme Public Hall's Traditional Chowder Dinner


Traditional chowder dinner at the Lyme Public Hall with corn chowder, Rhode Island clam chowder, Marilyn's special cole slaw, and apple crisp, all home-made with fresh ingredients. Aged Cabot cheddar cheese, courtesy of Tiffany Farms, and a variety of breads from Vanderbrooke Bakery in Old Saybrook will also be on the menu. Everyone is welcome. Proceeds will support the Lyme Public Hall's historical programs, archives, and the preservation of the building. For information, call Janis at 434-8566
